REDLAND INTERNATIONAL ORCHID FESTIVAL - One of America's largest annual orchid events with more than 50 world-class professional growers. Features orchid show, lectures by orchid experts from around the world, food, crafts and supplies. Fruit and Spice Park, 24801 SW 187th Ave., Miami, FL 33031

Goomday Festival in Coconut Grove - In addition to being a gastronomic and consumer powerhouse, The Grove (as it is sometimes called) is also known for its varied and fantastic festivals and gatherings. Its world renowned art festival and famous King Mango Strut (a hilarious, tongue-in-cheek takeoff of the Orange Bowl parade) are favorites to many. My personal choice for festivals, however, is the Goombay Festival. For a few days in June, the Goombay Festival transforms mild-mannered Coconut Grove into celebration of Bahamian culture in the form of a Caribbean carnival. Junkanoo groups (Junkanoo is the traditional Bahamian street parade, usually featuring large groups wearing brightly colored clothes and yes, tons of cowbell) abound, and it can be difficult to tell if you are in Miami or Nassau. Between the junkanoo groups dancing and carousing, the rake-and-scrape music coming from dozens of different sources, the sizzling Caribbean food, the vendors trying to hawk their wares, and the spectators caught up in the spectacle, the excitement is always palpable, and there is always more conch salad than you can more about Coconut Grove

First Annual Miami Fashion Film Festival, September 13th through the 15th. The festival will "showcase and celebrate films and filmmakers that creatively examine the art, culture, and business of fashion, both locally and internationally," and will feature narratives, documentaries, shorts and additional programming that will address "the opportunities and challenges, within fashion, that youth, women, and industry professionals face." For more information, visit September will also host the National Red Bull Flugtag on the 21st, where homemade human-powered flying machines will face off in a battle of engineering and style. Carnival Miami - North Miami - Parades and concerts, band contest, fireworks.

International Caribbean Music Festival - Held the same weekend as Miami Carnival, this celebration of island music began in 1997 as the Caribbean Reggae Fest, focusing mainly on the music of Jamaica. These days, the festival's scope has extended to include music from all over. Indeed, award-winning musicians like Gailann, Giselle Blanche, Red Rat and Rupee give the festival a true "pan-Caribbean" flavor.

Hollywood Jazz Festival
Some of the country's and region's top jazz musicians perform live at the concert series, held each November. Visit for concert schedule, and more info.

Broward County Fair - The fair boasts more than 35,000 exhibits in 38 categories. -

South Florida International Auto Show - Held each November, the show features exhibits of cars, trucks, sport utility vehicles and concept cars by more than 40 of the world's leading automakers. - Miami Beach Convention Center

Coconut Grove King Mango Strut - A parody of the Orange Bowl Parade winding through the streets of Coconut Grove.

Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade - Intracoastal Waterway from Port Everglades to Lake Santa Barbara.
